Installing Pure Data Extended on 64-bit Ubuntu

Okay, it’s 11 PM right now, i should get some sleep. But, before I go to sleep, here’s some step for you who want to install Pure Data extended or Pd-extended, to abbreviate, on a 64-bit Ubuntu (I use Hardy Heron, so I don’t know if other version would work). There’s no Pd-extended installer for 64-bit system in Pd official site, but believe me, this way would work. Just done it myself 🙂

1. Download the .deb installer which can be founded at

(muchas gracias senor, next time you’re in Jakarta, call me and i will buy you some drink ;))

2. Afer you downloaded it, just run the file, double click as usual, an the installer will run itself

3. The next step is to load all the externals that come with the Pd-extended. To do this, go to terminal and as root type:

gedit home/xxx/.pdsettings

Change “gedit” with your preferred text editor, such as nano, or vim. Don’t forget to change “xxx” with your home directory, this is usually your username.

4. Finally, setup the path where Pd-extended will load all the externals from. To do this, again from the terminal, as a root, type this:

audioapi: 2
noaudioin: False
audioindev1: 0 2
noaudioout: False
audiooutdev1: 0 2
audiobuf: 50

thank you so much for this information! I’ve searched for a long time without any effort to get this cyclone-library for my puredata on ubuntu with 64bit processor – now it works quite simple and I don’t have to rewrite all these objects!
